The Redemption Period occurs approximately 30 days after a domain has been reached its expiration date, this applies to .COM, .NET, and .ORG domains, other TLDs may have different policies concerning expiration and renewal.

For thirty (30) days after the expiration date the domain will be available for renewal in a grace period. After the thirty day grace period the domain will enter a hold period known as the Redemption Period for another thirty (30) days where to recover the domain the registry requires a HKD$3,000 fee.

However, there is no guaranteed grace period, and once expired, the domain can be deleted at any time.

33 Million Domains Registered in 2007

Report released by VeriSign, shows that over 33 Million domain names were registered in 2007, bringing the total up to 153million domains.

Below is a summary of the report:

In the last quarter of 2007, the base of domain name registrations grew 27 percent over the fourth quarter of 2006 and five percent over the third quarter of 2007… The total base of Country Code Top Level Domain Names (ccTLDs) was 58 million, a 33 percent increase year over year and a six percent increase quarter over quarter. Across all of the gTLDs and ccTLDs, .com has the highest base followed by .de (Germany), .net and .cn (China). The fifth spot is shared by .uk (United Kingdom) and .org. with approximately the same size base of domain name registrations.

This release also states that the adoption of IPv6 has been relatively slow in the United States as compared to Asia and Europe. More than 100 domain name registries (i.e. top-level domain managers) support IPv6 for name servers and DNS queries including VeriSign who has supported IPv6 for .com and .net since 2002. The root name servers were enabled for IPv6 in February 2008 with the inclusion of IPv6 addresses for six of the thirteen root servers, including the A and J root servers operated by VeriSign.

This tutorial will outline the steps required to migrate your website and email accounts to your new account in Focus Network Company.
- Step 1 - Backup your files
  First of all, you need to download the site from your old host. You can do this in one of two ways:
  - Backup your site through Plesk
    If your old host uses Plesk, and the Backup feature is enabled, you can download your entire site in a couple of clicks.
  - Backup your site via FTP
    If your host does not use Plesk or they do not have the backup function enabled, then you should backup your site using FTP. Typically you need to connect to your website via FTP, download your www or public_html folder (the names for this folder differ; it is the folder that contains your website).
    
    The tutorials below will show you how to connect and transfer files using the popular free FTP client software.
    Download and install FTP client software, such as Filezilla, CuteFTP, WS_FTP

- Step 2 - Backup and restore your MySQL databases
  If you do not have any MySQL databases, you can skip to Step 3.
  
  To transfer MySQL databases from your old host to Focus Network Company, there are two methods you can use:
  - Backup/Restore MySQL databases via Plesk
    This uses the same Plesk function as the file backup section does. you can backup your database in a couple of clicks.
  - Backup/Restore MySQL databases via phpMyAdmin
    If your host does not use Plesk/the backup function is disabled, you can backup and restore MySQL databases using phpMyAdmin. Follow the tutorials below for instructions on how to import and export MySQL databases in phpMyAdmin.

- Step 3 - Upload your files to your account
  Now you need to upload your files to your Focus Network Company account. If you backed up your files using the Plesk backup feature, you can upload them easily through your Plesk by following the tutorial above ("Restoring Data From Backup Archives").
  
  If you backed up your files using FTP, simply connect to your account using FTP client software and upload your files into the httpdocs folder.
- Step 4 - Create email address on your account
  Before you point your domain to your Focus Network Company account, its a good idea to create the email addresses through Plesk first. Simply create the email addresses you want on your account by following the tutorial below:

- Step 5 - Point your domain to your account
  By this point your account with Focus Network Company should mirror your account at your current host; you should have uploaded your site files and MySQL databases and created your email accounts. Once you are sure you have completed all the steps above, its time to change the nameservers of your domain.
  
  Login to your domain control panel at your registrar and modify the nameservers for your domain to the ones we sent you in the welcome email.

  Once you have done this, wait for your domain to propagate. This can take between 6-72 hours, depending on your location. To see if your domain has resolved correctly to your Focus Network Company account, type your domain name into the tool below and hit Lookup. On the next page scroll down to the Whois Record section. If the Focus Network Company nameservers are listed here, then your domain name has resolved.

  Check your domain name is displaying correctly, and then proceed to the next step.
- Step 6 - Cancel your account at your old host
  Once you have updated your nameservers and your domain name has resolved correctly, you can cancel your account at your old host.
  
  Make sure you backed up all your files; getting data back after you have cancelled your service with a provider can be quite difficult.
- Congratulations, you have succesfully moved your website to Focus Network Company!

The Conficker virus infects computers through exploiting a vulnerability of Microsoft Windows. Variants of the virus can also spread through file sharing and via USB drives, such as removable drives.

The Conficker virus can disable some important security services on infected computer. It also attempts to prohibit user from accessing some security sites. As result, an infected computer may be unable to download certain security products. Most anti-virus software can detect and block the virus. Prevention
