CentOS5 Kernel Vulnerability (dedicated server clients only)

This vulnerability could allow a user to elevate themselves to root access level. It is essential that you upgrade your kernel version as soon as possible. This vulnerability applies to servers using the 2.6.x kernel release. Further details on the issue can be found here:

To update, login to your server via shell, and then run the following command:

yum update

This must be done as root (so either login as root or use su/sudo)
Your server will be updated to the latest packages, including the new kernel.

Network Downtime

At 7:45 PM Hong Kong Time, our datacenter went down due to a DDoS attack. Our technicians on-site were able to correct this issue before any more damage was done. During the day today web sites hosted on the server #1 to #4 will be unavailable for a short period during an upgrade of the Apache web server software. During this maintenance, PHP, Perl, and Qmail software will also be upgraded.

It is our pleasure to inform you that a new server has been recently added to our rapidly expanding network of servers. Server#4 has the latest contemporary hardware specifications:

Network monitoring maintenance

An update to our primary network monitoring system is under way. During the next 10 days the status indicators and availability graphs available at the NOC site will not be updated, however our backup system will continue to monitor the network.

E-Store and Web hosting changes complete

The web site migration announced earlier this month was successfully completed this morning. Users experienced no service interruption.

Linux Kernel Upgrade on Server#1 and Server#2

ec2Biz.com wishes to inform you that on 08th of June 2005 we will upgrade the Linux kernel on Server#1 and #2 from version 2.4 to version 2.6. The upgrade will result in improved server performance and reliability, because Linux kernel v. 2.6 is faster and more stable than Linux kernel v. 2.4. Due to the scheduled upgrade, there can be brief interruptions in the availability of the service in the interval between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

Network outage update

On 7-September-2004 between 10:30 and 14:30 the network on which the server #1 is located was the target of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack which caused the server to be unavailable to most users.

Internet backbone issue

Dear Valued Customers,

At approximately 16:30 today an Internet worm began causing large portions of the entire backbone to slow down or become unreachable. No ec2biz.com servers were infected by the worm, however access to websites and email was affected for approximately two hours during the height of the attack. Network administrators world-wide have begun taking measures to halt the spread of the worm but Internet access may be slower than normal for the next few days.
